Your daily responsibilities include

  • Analyzes accounting transactions, performs necessary research and provides necessary recommendations regarding proper application of relevant tax and accounting standards. Monitors legislative activities and updates relevant to Penn National Gaming’s business operations.

  • Assists internal and external auditors with information requests and explanations as needed.

  • Assists properties on measuring all other taxes including franchise, sales & use, payroll and property. Explains tax technical concepts and development relationships with the properties’ finance and accounting professionals.

  • Calculates and prepares quarterly federal and state estimated payments in addition to preparing annual income tax extensions.

  • Responsible for analyzing the corporate organization chart as it relates to filing methods such as combinations and/or consolidations.

  • Reviews filing requirements in conjunction with tax calendar. Responsible for ensuring requirement are met.

  • Proactively develops and implements improved processes to minimize income tax risk and enhance internal controls.

  • Ensures documentation supporting tax returns and tax provisions are developed in an organized format for both electronic and hard-copy retrieval.

  • Perform special projects and ad hoc analysis as requested.

  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to Executive Management.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.

To be successful in this position it will require the following skill set

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from accredited four-year college in Finance, Accounting, or related field; five or more years of experience in in corporate setting or Big 4 tax department; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have previous tax return review and preparation experience, in addition to income tax provision preparation and ASC 740 reporting.

  • Must have technical proficiency and knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Knowledge of tax accounting preferred but not required.

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet assigned deadlines.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, balance multiple projects, and processes simultaneously.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Must have the ability to interact with colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
